Married with a new baby. I'm trying to figure out this whole parenthood thing and still find time for the things I love like food, wine, our big furry mutt and lazy days. We live near San Francisco and I can't imagine calling anywhere else home although I miss spring and thunderstorms in Chapel hill on a regular basis.

could you be having leaks because they’re not absorbing enough? Maybe you need to strip them? Maybe time to switch diapers?

I tested them for absorbancy and they seem to be fine. I could try stripping them just in case, it would be worth doing before buying a different type at least.

forgot to add, I have GroVia AIO that might work b/c they run small/snug, I can send you a couple. Else, you can try a small diaper trial (you’ll get your $$ back after the trial is over) to see if other diapers might work better.

I think I have a couple of grovia in the garage, they didn’t work for him when he was little so I wasn’t a big fan but I’ll give them another shot.

What type of diaper are you using? I know the new FuzziBunz have separately adjustable waist and legs.

We use tots bots easy fit which look like this.

The fuzzibunz is what I’m thinking of trying since they have the elastic around the legs and that has always been his problem area with the fit of cloth diapers. We tried a few different types in the beginning and the tots bots were our favorite because they were so easy to use and fit him well around his itty bitty legs. I just thought we were past that since he has chunked up so much since starting solids.

We’ve been using cloth diapers for the past 7 months and faced a few challenges with them but overall they have worked great. However, now we are having issues that I’m having trouble fixing so I’m hoping that someone else has a brilliant idea that will solve our problems. We use a one size and it’s got snaps to adjust the rise and velcro at the waist. Miles is currently too big for the medium settings and his chunky thighs are apparently not so chunky because they are too skinny for the large setting. The result is that we get major leakage on either setting. We’re using disposables right now because I can’t seem to find a good solution to the problem. I’m considering buying a different type of cloth diaper so we have something for this in between stage since I don’t know how long it’s going to last but would rather not spend all that money. Any ideas?

I noticed that on Totsy, they have Fuzzibunz on sale for half off for the next 12 hours. Click the link if you need an invite.

The upfront costs are pretty steep. We went with all in ones for convenience but they are pricey at $24 each. We started out with two diapers of three different types to see which ones worked best for us. We now have 18 and that is enough for two days. However, the cost of disposables works out to be more a year, at least for us. Both husband and I have incredibly sensitive skin so we went with the seventh generation chlorine free just in case Miles inherited it and they cost $14 per 40 diapers. When we went to Boise, we went through 25-30 in 3 days. Plus, in theory we don’t need to get anymore cloth diapers. We still have disposables for when other people watch him in case they aren’t comfortable with the cloth. Also, we use one when we first put him to bed since he sleeps 5-6 hrs in the disposables but wakes up after 3 in the cloth because he hates being wet and he is much more sensitive to it in the cloth. We looked briefly into a service but decided against it and I don’t really remember the reasoning at this point.

  • Question: Do you have a sprayer on the toilet to rinse the diapers? How do you handle the clean up? - saraplainandtall
  • Answer:

We don’t. He gets mostly breastmilk so he doesn’t poop that often and when he does it’s pretty much liquid. We haven’t had any issues with it not washing out in the washing machine and the sun seems to prevent any staining.

As far as daily cleanup, I have two wet bags for the diaper pail and I do a load of diapers every night after we put him down. I wash them on hot, I don’t soak them per the recommendation for the particular type of diapers I use, and I use one pump of Method free and clear laundry detergent. So far, it’s working out well although it would be nice if it stopped raining so I could actually dry them in the sun.

We have been using cloth diapers for over a month and I love it. If you interested, more after the break.
