How long does food stay good for in the fridge/freezer during a power outage? It shift off an hour and a half ago and I’m starting to get concerned.

I’m taking Miles for his first haircut this afternoon. I still want him to look shaggy and like a baby, I just want him to also be able to see. If he could sit still, I’d do it myself but I’d probably end up poking his eye out given my complete lack of coordination and his complete inability to recognize the need to stay still around sharp objects.

That was heartbreaking. I hate losing to Duke, I hate it even more when the last few plays look like something from a comedy routine rather than real basketball. I’m going to drown my sorrow in gin.

Judgmental observation of the day
ackb:
If you have to accompany your kid to a job interview you have failed as a parent.
I’ve heard of this but I’ve never seen it. I’ve asked husband, since he actually does interviews, and he hasn’t either but that he has friends who work for “younger” companies that have witnessed it. How could you possible hire someone that can’t even go to an...

My birthday is in a couple of weeks and to celebrate, we are going to my very favorite restaurant. It’s in the Russian River valley so we can’t drive up and back for dinner which means we are staying the night. Considering husband is taking a day off work so we can go wine tasting and hiking, I didn’t want to leave Miles with his grandparents and miss the chance to spend time as...

I’ve always had a problem with insomnia but it never bothered me before Miles was born. I didn’t care if I couldn’t sleep at night because I could sleep in or take a nap but now I know that I still have to be up at 5am and I get more stressed as the minutes tick by in my head. So, I’m taking a break from trying to fall asleep and I’m going to watch Sherlock instead.

The only drawback to birchbox, so far, is that they won’t let me spend money. I went to sign up, since I liked the box so much, but they are sold out of boxes and it is waitlist only. Then I went to order the lip gloss and the bright pink color is sold out and it is waitlist only. I get it, go to bed and stop shopping.

I love Birchbox so much. I got that Jouer lip stuff last month and it’s pretty fab!
I love the lip gloss. I have a hidden weakness for bright pink lip color. The only drawback is Miles had an odd sort of rash on his head and I couldn’t figure out why he had two bright pink marks that were only on his...

ooh, what color is that? and do we get a photo of it on??
It’s called Kristin and it’s a really pretty blue gray. Of course there will be photos, I don’t think it counts as painting my nails if I don’t show tumblr what the color looks like.

There will never be crying like the crying at the end of season 4 of Dr. Who. Does this include the “specials” between 4 and 5? Or just the regular episodes? Otherwise, you aren’t done crying yet.
This was over the specials. I thought the end of season 4 was a bit sad but I...

I just finished watching the very last of the season 4 Dr. Who episodes and I cried all the tears. Let’s now do that again.

I saw that and I think it’s like a prequel to The Golden Key? It doesn’t involve Collan or Sioned so it’s BULLSHIT.
Tor dot com is posting an excerpt on Monday. The description on Amazon says it’s the first in a new series and it sounds different than the Golden...

I think the only way Sherlock could get any better is if Idris Elba and David Tennant were in it.

Miles and I were supposed to go into the city to meet a friend and eat our way through the ferry building but husband forgot to charge his car last night so he took mine to the office. One of the main drawbacks to owning an electrical car is having a forgetful owner who doesn’t always charge it. At least my friend is coming down this way even if it would have been nice to enjoy a change in...

hope you’re feeling better! are you still doing magnesium/riboflavin? are they helping at all?
I feel much better, thank you! The mg/riboflavin, along with acupuncture, are saving my life. This was the first bad one I’ve had in a month and my daily headaches are no longer daily which is so nice.

Today, I was reminded that I am incredibly lucky to have family nearby. I woke up fine and then 20 min later, all the warning signs of a migraine. Fuck. I spent two hrs trying to deal with the pain and take care of Miles before admitting that it was just too much and my mother in law and sister in law came and picked him up and spent the day with him. I got to sleep the worst of it off and wonder...

I liked it better when Miles couldn’t sit or stand on his own. Now I put him down for a nap and he doesn’t even lay down. How am I supposed to get him to take a nap when he uses the crib as a jungle gym?
ETA: He is now in there calling for me. “Mama, Mama” How the hell am I supposed to resist that?

Week in food
I like to be a follower when it comes to Tumblr so here’s our menu for the week.
Monday: Asian Chicken Soup (I make this all the time because it’s easy and quick and I always add a bunch of veggies and garlic and sriracha. So good.)
Tuesday: BBQ Chicken fingers and roasted butternut squash
Wednesday: Tomato soup and grilled cheese
Thursday: Quinoa, black bean and veggie salad

Today has been close to perfect. I got to sleep in, husband worked from home in the morning and we took the munchkin out to lunch. He is so darn cute when we take him places now, lots of smiles and waving and staring at everyone. He even got us a discount on a piece of furniture for our entryway. He had one meltdown but the rest of the day he was smiling and laughing and enjoying all his new...

Tumblr Buddy! I got the email about the birchbox subscription today and I want to say thank you. You are the best! I can’t wait to get my first box, I’ve heard so many good things about it and I’m so excited to try it. You have made my day!

1981 was the best year to be born! Glad to hear it went well, though, I take it no one asked you about Christmas I hope haha.
I would have died from laughter if someone had. It was normal mom stuff and mostly trying to make sure the babies didn’t hit each other or pull toys down on their heads.

This sounds pretty cool. Is there a general website or anything, curious if there are any down this way.
The websites I know are for the specific schools (little hands, little wonders) but they may have links to other co ops or more information.
simplejulie said: I love the rug, where did you get it? Also, what color are the walls?
Sorry this took so long for me to answer. The rug we got off of overstock and the walls are Benjamin Moore waterfall, at least I’m pretty sure that is what it is. The paint can is Kelly...

We attended the preview session of the co-op yesterday and I went ahead and signed up. From now until the end of May, Miles and I will be attending for 2 hrs once a week. I already feel a little out of the loop since the orientation was late last year so all the other parents knew each other and what to expect, there was also an entire playgroup in the class, but everyone was really friendly. It...

For lunch, I had a piece of whole wheat bread with cream cheese and cucumbers and a glass of green juice. That makes up for eating four oreos and a handful of jelly bellies for breakfast, right?

The last four episodes of series 3 of Dr. Who are pretty darn sad. Let’s start Series 4 on a happier note.

I am really not looking forward to any interactions with other moms.
I’d like to make friends with other moms since I stay at home during the week and I have a lot of time on my hands. I don’t have many friends locally to begin with and the ones I do have all work during the week so I...

I took Miles to the park this morning and there was one other mom with her toddler there. They eventually made their way over to the swings and we started chatting and she asked if Santa had brought Miles lots of presents for Christmas and my head about exploded. First, it’s the end of January. Aren’t we done with this yet? Second, I don’t celebrate Christmas and I don’t...

I just watched Smash on Amazon and I love it. Thank goodness there is something to replace the gaping musical hole left when I canceled my season pass to Glee on my DVR. I can’t wait for it to be on every week.

what color is it? it looks beautiful!
It’s Essie’s turquoise & caicos which is almost the exact same color as Miles’ room. Instead of a magpie that’s attracted to anything that sparkles, I can’t resist anything in the perfect shade of robin’s egg blue.

That’s a gorgeous couch! And looks easy to clean from grubby baby hands :)
The easy to clean part definitely figured into our decision. As did the fact that Miles can stand on it and throw himself back, like a trust fall except no one is there to catch him, and not fall off if we don’t grab him in time....
